Shay Given believes Aston Villa want him “out of the door”.

The veteran Irish keeper is back in the West Midlands following a hugely successful three-month loan spell with Boro.

However, he admits he could be sent back out on loan again before the end of the season and could leave Villa for good in the summer.

Given’s current contact with Paul Lambert’s Premier League outfit doesn’t end until June 2016 and the fact he reportedly earns around £50,000 per week limits the number of clubs that can afford to sign the goalie to a long-term contract.

Under the current rules, Boro can’t take him back on loan this season, but that doesn’t stop the 37-year-old joining another club.

“I might go back out on loan again somewhere before the end of March,” he told the Birmingham Mail.

“Aston Villa want me out of the door, so something might happen.

“It has been really frustrating not playing, that’s obvious for everyone to see, and the window doesn’t open until the summer, so maybe there is a Championship club out there who might want me.”

Given appears to have reconciled himself to a future away from Villa Park but finding a club willing to match his salary could prove difficult.

Aitor Karanka has made no secret of his desire to sign him but, if Boro are still in the Championship next season, finding the cash to force the deal through could prove nigh on impossible.

“Hopefully something will happen in the summer somewhere,” Given said.

Shay Given was voted Ramsdens Boro Player of the Month for January and was handed his award before the Leeds match by lifelong supporter and season card holder Kath Tomlinson.
