Michael Sheffield has announced his retirement as Coroner for Teesside, ending over 40 years of service in the position.
Mr Sheffield, will retire at the end of April this year and has extended his best wishes to his successor, and to those who have worked with him over the years he has served.
He especially thanked Chief Constable of Cleveland Police Jacqui Cheer, who he says has helped enormously to assist the Service in its resourcing and evolution.
Mr Sheffield has twice survived calls to resign by MPs over concerns over long delays to inquests on Teesside.
