Tinie Tempah will play at TFM Soundworks on Middlesbrough's Linthorpe Road
Multi-platinum selling rapper Tinie Tempah will play Middlesbrough next week - and he says he “can’t wait” for the Boro date.
More than 1,500 fans have already snapped up tickets to Tuesday’s gig at TFM Soundworks on Middlesbrough’s Linthorpe Road.
The chart-topping artist’s date was described as a “great coup” for the town when it was confirmed earlier this year.
In recent years Tinie - real name Patrick Okogwu - has become one of the most successful British rappers of his generation with hits including Frisky, Written In The Stars and Children Of The Sun.
His debut single Pass Out in 2010 earned him his first number one.
He was recently back at the top of the charts for a fourth time when dance anthem Tsunami (Jump) by DVBBS and Borgeous, featuring Tinie Tempah, stormed into the singles top spot.
Speaking ahead of his Middlesbrough gig, Tinie said: “I can’t wait to come down to Middlesbrough it’s been years since I was last there.
“I’ve got a special set for the Middlesbrough crowd that includes the best songs from the first album, the new album and all the tracks in between. I’m literally counting down the days, hope you guys have your tickets. See you there.”
TFM Soundworks recently tweeted: “It is exciting that we will have a global superstar play Middlesbrough next week!”
And a spokesman for TFM added: “The 21st century has been dominated by a resurgence in UK music taking inspiration from a more urban template.
“The likes of So Solid Crew, Disclosure, Katy B, Chase & Status and many more can all lay claim to bringing the sounds of hip hop, grime, garage, house and dubstep to the masses, but one man has been arguably the most successful of them all in merging this palette with pop. That man is Tinie Tempah.
“After recently celebrating his fourth UK singles chart number one, Tinie’s stock couldn’t be higher after the praise garnered for his 2013 album Demonstration. That followed 2010’s runaway success Disco-overy, featuring the scintillating track Pass Out, which broke him into the mainstream.
“Having won two BRIT Awards, four MOBOs and an Ivor Novello Award, and worked with the likes of Calvin Harris, Rita Ora, 2 Chainz, Swedish House Mafia and Diplo, he remains a national icon.”
Tinie’s Middlesbrough gig adds to a growing list of names heading to TFM Soundworks. Earlier this week it was confirmed that Eighties R&B icon Billy Ocean is to play the venue. The singer, known for hits including Caribbean Queen and When The Going Gets Tough, will come to Middlesbrough on July 17.
Support acts at Tinie’s gig on Tuesday will be Teesside’s Josh Daniel and Bre Musiq.
A limited number of tickets, priced £32.50, are still available from Kalinka Bar, Middlesbrough and online at http://ift.tt/1ltXV9E.
