Egyptian tortured to death in military prison

The family of Abdul Rahman Kamal are suing the National Security Services and the head of investigations unit at the 6 October City police station of kidnapping their son and torturing him to death in the Azuly military prison, local media reported.

Egypt’s Attorney General Judge Hisham Barakat is reported to have received the lawsuit in which the family claim that Kamal was subjected to brutal and continuous torture which led to his arm breaking and he died during surgery to repair the damage to his limbs

Kamal was arrested in his home in September and was taken to an unknown location. His family eventually located him in the Azuly military prison. Former prisoners informed them that Kamal had been brutally tortured and that his arm was broken and that he died during surgery to repair it.

Kamal’s father demanded the Attorney General hand his son’s body back for burial.

The lawsuit demands an investigation be undertaken into Kamal’s abduction, his incarceration in a military prison and the events that led to his death
