Hungry cat rescued by RSPCA after getting head stuck in discarded tin of dog food

A hungry kitty had to be rescued by RSPCA inspectors after it got its head stuck in an empty can of food.

The distressed cat went looking for food but got its head stuck in the discarded tin in the back yard of a property on Ayresome Street, in central Middlesbrough, on Friday.

Luckily, a passerby alerted the RSPCA who took the pet to a local veterinary practice. Vets removed the can and discovered it was uninjured.

Inspector John Lawson said the cat was feral and had since been neutered.

He said: “The cat was freed from the can and was admitted into the vets for observation. The cat turned out to be feral and as a result we have neutered it, and it will be released into a safe feral colony.

“I want to remind people of the hazards that litter presents to animals and I think this incident highlights these dangers well.”
