Teessider Richard Kilty, who won World Indoor Championship 60m gold in a thrilling race with a personal best of 6.49 seconds last March, will compete indoors for the first time since his glorious triumph in Poland this weekend.
The Stockton sprinter is in the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the Sainsbury’s Glasgow International Match on Saturday.
And he’ll be one of three Teesside athletes in action.
He’ll be joined by Middlesbrough long jumper Chris Tomlinson the 2008 World Indoor silver medallist, and Thornaby’s Rabah Yousif who runs in the 4x400m relay.
“To be at the Sainsbury’s Glasgow International Match as world champion is really exciting,” said Kilty, the current Gazette Sports Person of the Year.
“This is my first race back as world champion and I’m really excited to get back to Great Britain and perform.
“I’m pretty nervous to get out there, I haven’t competed for about four months.
“I’m sure the crowd will get behind me so I can run a pretty quick time and put in a good performance.”
Conrad Williams will captain a team that also includes former World Junior silver medallist Jessica Judd in the 1500m, Commonwealth Games pole vault silver medallist Luke Cutts and World Junior bronze medallist David Omoregie in the 60m hurdles.
