Let the comic see the laughs - or should that be hear them?
Comedian Paddy McGuinness is taking to the road with a new stand up tour and he’s heading for the Boro.
The host of telly’s Take Me Out, who hails from Bolton, will bring his Up Close and Personal with Daddy McGuinness show to Middlesbrough Town Hall in September.
The show is part of a nationwide tour and sees yet another big comedy name confirm a date at the venue which this year will also host the likes of Dara O’Briain, Alan Carr and Kevin Bridges.
Teesside audiences, it seems, definitely do ‘likey’ the comic who played to a packed Town Hall in 2005 and again in 2008 with a show at Billingham’s Forum Theatre in 2006.
This time round, they can really get ‘up close’ to the man himself - the first six rows of seats have been deemed premium and audience members will get a signed photo from Paddy and a VIP tour laminate to wear.
Tickets for the September 29 show go on sale at the Town Hall box office on Friday morning - fans are being advised to get there in person or buy online as phone lines are expected to be busy.
“This is another big name for the Town Hall’s comedy line up,” said Middlesbrough Town Hall operations manager Neil Darcy.
“Paddy was last here a few years back and we are expecting tickets for this show to be a sell out.”
The show is for over 15s only - tickets will be priced £35 for premium seats, £25 and £17.50.
The Gazette interviewed the star in 2005 when he brought his Dark Side Tour to Middlesbrough.
“I’d never ever thought of doing anything like this,” said Paddy at the time.
“I was a floor concreter and fitness instructor before Phoenix Nights.
“After filming the first series, I went right back to that. I never thought any more of it. When the second series came along, they said ‘You might want to think of leaving your job and making a career of this’.”
And, it seems, he has.
