Billingham Synthonia are set to make two new signings this week after having one man stretchered off and another red carded against Bedlington.
Synners dropped to fourth bottom following their 2-1 home defeat, and have 10 games left to save their Northern League first division bacon.
Dan Dillon received a straight red card for a petulant kick on Dylan Williamson in front of the referee.
Chris Dodds had to be carried off with an ankle problem, and Stevie Huggins also joined an injury list that includes former Hartlepool United midfielder Josh Rowbotham.
Synners had won five of their previous six league games but were forced to start with top scorer Michael Sweet on the bench after he suffered an ankle injury in midweek.
Sweet pulled a goal back with a stunning late volley direct from a corner, but Bedlington were already two up through Stephen Young’s double.
“It’s a bit of a Catch 22 situation at the moment, because I’ve been working the lads hard in terms of fitness, but with that they have been getting stretched,” said Synners boss Conrad Hillerby.
“I’m trying to get at least two players in this week to help. Winning the five out of six has put us in the mix, and we have to fight on.”
Ton-up Guisborough rounded off a successful week by staying second in the table, a point behind leaders West Auckland.
Chris Hardy’s side reached a second successive North Riding Senior Cup final on Tuesday by beating York City.
And Saturday saw them crush 10-man Bishop Auckland 5-0 away from home to surpass the 100-goal mark.
Three slickly-worked first half goals from Callum Martin, Nathan Steel and James Risbrough paved the way for another impressive Priorymen victory.
Bishops’ cause became a lost one soon after the interval when Kyle Davis was sent off after an ugly incident with blameless Guisborough midfielder Chay Liddle.
The visitors assumed complete control and added further late goals from Curtis Round and Andrew May in the closing five minutes to cap an excellent all-round performance.
Marske still have games in hand on their fellow title contenders but have now lost two in a row and slipped a spot to fifth following their single-goal defeat at Jarrow Roofing.
Roofing scored their winner on the counter attack following a Marske free-kick as Lewis Teasdale nodded in a right-wing cross after 36 minutes.
Winger Josh MacDonald came closest for the Jamie Owens-less Seasiders after the break when his shot was tipped onto a post.
Second tier high flyers Norton still have the only unbeaten home record in both divisions, but the Ancients had to settle for a goalless draw against Whickham and had Luke Johnson sent off late in the game for a second yellow as they remained third.
Thornaby put their 11-1 North Riding Senior Cup battering by Scarborough Athletic behind them as they thrashed rock-bottom Brandon 4-0 on their travels, despite having Stephen Morrison sent off.
Ged Livingstone put them ahead with his second goal in two games since rejoining from Guisborough.
Morrison was then red-carded or a stray elbow but substitutes Richie Walker and Joe Melvin scored either side of a Danny Lofts effort.
Billingham Town only had one injury time shot on target in a lame 1-0 defeat at Ryton.
David Edwards’ header was nothing more than a consolation as Stokesley lost 3-1 at home to Heaton Stannington.
