Teenage shot putter Beth Carter shone in the North East Indoor Athletics Championships at Gateshead College.
The Middlesbrough AC (Mandale) 16-year-old successfully defended the title she first won in 2014.
With her very first throw of the competition she smashed the championship best of 10.49m with a new personal best of 11.51m.
Her new best performance was good enough to move the talented teenager to seventh place in the UK rankings just two weeks before the national championships.
Two other gold medals on day one went to Carter’s training partners Rob Longstaff (Midd AC) and Jess Welburn (Midd AC), who took gold in the senior men’s and Under-20 women’s triple jump events respectively.
Matthew Walker of New Marske Harriers was a double gold medal winner.
He won the Under-13 high jump with 1.27m before returning to take the long jump gold with 3.98m.
Clubmate Matthew Brinning won the under-15 pole vault, clearing 1.80m.
Adam Cowperthwaite (Midd AC) finished fourth in the under-15 high jump with a personal best of 1.45m.
Catherine Burns (Midd AC) threw well in her first year in the under-15 age group, finishing fourth in the shot putt and Jasmine Clark (Midd AC) was fifth in the Under-15 long jump (4.36m).
Day two belonged to three female teenage sprinters - two representing Gateshead Harriers and young hurdler from New Marske.
The fastest female sprinter on show was Thornaby’s Rachel Highfield who was competing in the under-20 60m.
Following a heat win (7.89secs), Highfield returned to take the title for the third time in three years in 7.87secs.
Welburn (Middlesbrough AC) finished in fourth place (8.20secs).
Amy Carter (New Marske Harriers) built on her fifth place in the Northern Championships 60m hurdles by taking the gold medal at Gateshead.
She ran a personal best 9.61secs in her heat before stopping the clock at 9.55secs in the final to record a championship best performance and move to 19th place on the UK rankings.
Plamedi Mukendi (Gateshead) was in good form ahead of the national championships.
The Billingham speedster sliced more than a tenth of a second from the Under-15 60m record (7.88secs) in her first round heat.
That time moved Mukendi up to second place in the UK rankings although in the final she was second behind North of England champion Rachel Bennett (Shildon) in 8.03secs.
Another Billingham sprinter, North of England Champion Christian Carson (Gateshead), continued his impressive run of form.
Fresh from reaching the semi-final of the British Championships the day before Carson won the North-east title with ease, running a personal best of 6.83secs in the senior final.
In the Under-13 category, Matthew Walker (New Marske) capped off his fine weekend with his third gold medal in the 60m hurdles while Robert Ward (Middlesbrough AC) claimed the silver medal in the 60m.
Amy Readman (New Marske) ran a personal best of 8.27secs to take the silver medal in the senior 60m and George Dawson (Middlesbrough AC) took bronze in the under-17 60m in a personal best of 7.41secs.
