Teessider Jonathan Grounds will be looking to get forward against his former club tonight.
The 26-year-old defender from Thornaby started his career with Boro, graduating from the hugely productive Rockliffe Park Academy.
He signed for Birmingham last summer following two seasons with Oldham Athletic.
Grounds admits to having second thoughts about his move to St Andrew’s after the club’s poor start to the season but the upturn in City’s on-field fortunes since Gary Rowett’s appointment has improved his mood.
“It’s turned around and actually been quite positive,” he said, analysing his time with Blues so far.
“Obviously when you are in the relegation zone you are thinking ‘was this the right move?’
“But with the new manager coming in and results have picked up now we are sitting in a really nice position to hopefully push on towards the play-offs.

“I think I am improving steadily. Results do that as well, team performances definitely bring confidence to players and you try things that you probably wouldn’t have tried when we were losing before.
“Getting forward is something I’ve spoken with the manager about.
"We talked about pushing people forward and trying to get a little bit closer, tighter and higher up the pitch myself.
“Hopefully I can work on that with him and continue to do that in games.
“Confidence is a massive thing in most players’ games. Hopefully the results and my performances can keep getting better.”
Off the field, things look rather different at St Andrew's.
The club face an uncertain future after the club's owners said yesterday that they were left "with no option" but to go into receivership.
