Aitor Karanka has confirmed that Mustapha Carayol is in the squad for Tuesday’s home game against Bolton.
The Boro boss has also strongly hinted that the winger will get on the pitch at some stage during the match.
Carayol hasn’t played for the first team since he suffered a cruciate knee ligament tear in the 0-0 draw at Bournemouth on March 15 last year.
Though the 26-year-old returned to the training ground before Christmas, Karanka has been determined not to rush his return to the first team.
Carayol has played for Paul Jenkins’ Under-21 development team in a bid to build-up his match fitness and he’s now been cleared for Championship football.

“He is in the squad for tomorrow, he could be involved tomorrow,” the Spaniard said in Monday’s pre-match press conference.
“Tomorrow is a game that I think he can have his opportunity.
“He needs time,” added Karanka. “He has been playing with the Under-21s and his performances have been getting better so I am pleased with him and he just needs to take the last step.
Jelle Vossen won’t be in the squad after suffering concussion in Saturday’s match against Leeds.
