It certainly wasn't easy viewing but more than 1,000 Boro fans showed their appreciation after the team dug deep to earn a point at Birmingham.

The evening was always going to be tough after Dimi Konstantopoulos was shown a straight red card for bringing down Blues striker Clayton Donaldson just before the break.

Paul Caddis slammed the penalty past substitute keeper Tomas Mejias, and Boro fans feared the worst .

But Aitor Karanka's side put in a stunning second half display, despite their numerical disadvantage, and drew level when Patrick Bamford clinically finished off a superb team move.

In the end, it was a point gained for Boro as they moved one point clear of Championship rivals Derby and Bournemouth at the summit.
