A severe weather alert has been issued for Teesside for the weekend.
The Met Office has issued the ‘yellow warning’ for Sunday, predicting rain, sleet, snow - and also possible blizzards on higher ground.
“Rain, sleet and snow spreading east on Sunday will tend to turn back to rain, but remain as snow on high ground where accumulations of more than 5cm are expected in places,” says the warning.
“Winds will gust to over 50mph on coasts and hills, leading to blizzard conditions on high level routes.
“The public should be aware of difficult driving conditions and the risk of disruption to transport.”
A yellow warning means that you should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays according to the Met Office website.
It added: “An Atlantic frontal system will meet colder air over northern parts of the UK, bringing snow for a time.
“Whilst much of this will turn back to rain, routes above about 200m northern Scotland and about 300m northern England will have a prolonged spell of snow, which will drift in the strong winds.”
The agency has also issued severe weather warnings for North Yorkshire and Durham.
The top temperature today for Teesside is around 9C with a low of 3C.
