Win your weight in chips - guess the height of the Redcar Beacon (in chips, of course)

A takeaway is celebrating National Chip Week by offering customers their weight in chips – if they can guess, in chips, the height of the neighbouring Redcar Beacon.

Oliver’s Fish 'n' Chips, of Redcar, is offering the prize as part of a fun competition to mark National Chip Week, which runs until Sunday.

As part of the promotional drive, we have been asking what's the best thing to have on top of your chips.

And Mike and Helen Roberts, owners of the Bath Street restaurant and takeaway, have revealed a series of chip facts and figures.

They include that Oliver’s goes through 2,000 bags of potatoes, and fries 44,000 servings of chips, per year - equating to more than 1.7 million chips.

Now they are challenging customers to chip in with a fact of their own by guessing how many Oliver’s chips standing end to end it would take to reach the height of Redcar Beacon.

Head fryer Mike said: “We wanted to celebrate National Chip Week and our Redcar heritage in a fun way.”
