Councillors are this morning considering plans to open a new lap-dancing club in Middlesbrough.
Th applicants wants to vary the licence of Slam! and Middlesbrough Council’s licensing sub-committee is considering the bid.
The proposal has been criticised by Middlesbrough MP Andy McDonald and opposed by police. The meeting starts at 11am.
Moved onto The Purple Pig application
Council officer stressed it was application to vary premises licence
Licensing committee panel not needed as a result
Number of conditions such as proof of age, training, CCTV etc have been agreed
There will be no extension of hours
The application to extend opening hours has been withdrawn
Slam and police have negotiated prior to meeting
Police have withdrawn objections to Slams application for variation to licence
Cleveland Police object to plans citing several assaults
Middlesbrough MP Andy McDonald has called Slam's plans "demeaning" and "juvenile"
The Licensing subcommittee C is chaired by Cllr Bernie Taylor
