Don’t pack away your winter coat just yet...
Just as we thought we were heading for warmer weather, The Met Office has predicted a cold snap for North Yorkshire and other parts of the North-east.
The ‘Yellow Warning for Snow and Ice’ is in place until 10.00am this morning.
The report said: “Rain will move eastwards into the UK during the early hours of Thursday and is likely to turn to sleet and snow as it comes inland across parts of Scotland and northern England.
“Accumulations of 1cm to 4cm are likely above 200-250m with locally 5cm to 10cm possible above around 350m.
“At lower levels, accumulations appear less likely although 1cm or so of slushy deposits are possible in places.
“Even at this late stage there is uncertainty regarding the amounts of snow as the situation is very finely balanced.”
The rain, sleet and snow is expected to clear away eastwards this morning.
The report added: “The public should be aware of the potential for difficult driving conditions on some of the higher routes in particular.”
A high temperature of around 8C is forecast for today for our area, with a possible low of 3C.
A yellow warning means that you should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays according to the Met Office website.
