Boro shot themselves in the foot at Nottingham Forest with costly mistakes at the back, admits Tomas Kalas.
But the defence can’t afford to dwell on the errors says the on-loan Czech stopper.
“We can’t beat ourselves up over the mistakes for a long time,” said the Chelsea man.
“We can’t be distracted by them. We just have to work hard in training and concentrate in games and make sure these errors don’t happen again.”
Kalas has put his hand up to making slips in the build-up to both Forest goals in the 2-1 reverse at the weekend.
“I must admit I was involved in both goals,” he said frankly.
Boro were leading after Grant Leadbitter forced an early own goal but Forest levelled before the break with a superb strike by Gary Gardner then stole victory on the break as Michail Antonio robbed Emilio Nsue and barged Kalas aside to square for Dexter Blackstock.
“For the first one we should have blocked the shot and I was one of the closest defenders so that was my mistake,” he said.
“And for the second I should have been quicker and stronger to win the ball or at least fouled Antonio. I didn’t do those things and then the goal happened.
“We knew most of the balls would go to him and what type of player he is but we didn’t learn from what the coach had told us to expect.
“I can only be honest and say unfortunately I didn’t do my best - but I won’t dwell on it.
“I will work harder in training and the next game to be better, improve myself and make it right. You have to learn from your mistakes and not make them again.”

Boro dominated possession at Forest for long spells, passed the ball well, had the home side pinned in their box and created a blizzard of chances but failed to score and unhappy Kalas says that is another mistake Boro must quickly put right.
“We know that we are going to come up against teams who will just play for the counter attack like they did,” he said.
“Nobody will ask who played the better football afterwards - it will just be about the results in the newspapers that matter when we read them.
“We have to defend better than we did, yes.
“But we must score goals better too. I must learn and so must the team.
“It is frustrating on the pitch when you have that many shots - 24? - but how many times did we actually hit the goal? Four!
“It is not the best stats. When you look at the other team they scored from just two or three chances. It’s not good enough and we have to improve.
“We tried to play as much as we could. You could see that we were playing the football and we were better in possession and is difficult in these games, but we have to do better.
“Whether you win or lose you always have to learn so you are a better at crucial times.
“And I think the crucial time is now. We have to bounce back and will be difficult against the three tough teams coming now.
“We bounced back after Sheffield and everyone was happy again but then we have made it difficult for ourselves again.
“We have to bounce back again and make sure this time we do not make mistakes.”
