Three men forced their way into an apartment off Roman Road stole a small quantity of cash in terrifying burglary
Three masked, armed men forced their way into a Middlesbrough home and stole money in a terrifying burglary.
Police say that three Asian men knocked on the door of an apartment off Roman Road in Linthorpe and, when the couple who lived there answered, the trio forced their way in.
All three were armed, and had their faces covered with either a headscarf or a balaclava.
Police are now hunting the men and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The terrifying incident happened at The Potteries development, directly behind Linthorpe Primary School on Roman Road, on Tuesday at 8.10pm.
The victims said all three men were Asian.
They stole a small quantity of cash before leaving the property.
Police have not yet confirmed what type of weapons the men were armed with.
A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “We were called at 8.10pm where three Asian males forced their way into an apartment and demanded cash.
“All three were in possession of weapons. They stole a small quantity of cash.
“They were all wearing dark clothing and had either a headscarf or balaclava covering their faces.
“They knocked on the door of the property and when it was answered they forced their way in.
“The two occupants were not injured.”
A man who works in Linthorpe, close to the flats, said that cars are regularly seen travelling in and out of the block’s car park at all times of the night.
Gates into the car park, and security doors into the block, are also regularly left open.
A 27-year-old woman who lives in a neighbouring flat in The Potteries said: “I have lived here for two years.
“I didn’t hear anything at the time, but I know that the police were here.
“We’ve never had any problems here before.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency 101 number or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
