Twenty drivers were seen running red lights as police carried out checks in response to resident complaints.
Middlesbrough residents had raised concerns about drivers going through red lights on Acklam Road at the junction with Trimdon Avenue and Lodore Grove.
In response, officers from Coulby Newham Neighbourhood Policing Team were today at the spot.
Officers recorded offences taking place and letters of advice will be sent to those drivers. Any subsequent offences will result in prosecutions.
Neighbourhood Inspector Tina Notman said: “We have listened to the concerns raised by the local community and we are working towards improving the issues by educating those drivers who think it‘s acceptable to drive through traffic lights when they are on red.
“At peak times these junctions have a lot of schoolchildren crossing the roads and a heavy flow of traffic.
"Drivers are running the risk of a serious collision if they do not abide by the laws that are put in place to protect road users.
"Those that continue with this kind of behaviour can expect to be prosecuted.
“Drivers should be stopping when the amber light is displayed, unless it is unsafe to do so.”
Kader Ward Councillor Ronald Arundale said: “Local residents have highlighted the potentially dangerous situation at the junction of Acklam Road and Lodore Grove, and are concerned that it could put both drivers and pedestrians at risk."
