Billingham seized the local bragging rights after completing a league double over arch-rivals Westoe.
The Greenwood Road outfit ran out 25-5 winners to maintain their top six aspirations in National Three North.
Bouncing back after last weekend’s 47-45 defeat to Firwood Waterloo, Billingham captain Peter Evans was full of praise for his young side.
“It was a massive win for us - it was always going to be tough, regardless off league positions,” Evans said.
“It was a typical derby game in the first half, scrappy and close, and we didn’t get into second gear.
“But in the second half we really stepped it up, the boys up front were excellent and some of hits in the backs were brutal. It really set the platform for the outside backs to play and tear them apart.”
The win moves Billingham to within touching distance of fifth-placed Cleckheaton.
Meanwhile Acklam took control of their own promotion destiny in Durham and North Two after cruising to a 69-10 win at South Tyneside College.
In the 15th minute Acklam scored their first of 10 tries, and it was a case of damage limitation for the plucky hosts thereafter.
The match also saw a welcome return by winger Andy Dunn with a two-try salvo.
There were also tries for Dean Edwards James Ffitch, Adam Harrison, Tim Savage and Chris Walker, meaning Acklam head to Hartlepool next weekend with plenty to play for.
Meanwhile Yarm overcame Jarrovians in the Durham County Challenge Trophy semi-final. Tries by Jason Clark, Nathan Arulananthan, Stephen Downey, Stu Sheridan, Jamie West and a Tom Beagrie brace secured a 37-19 win on the road.
