Youngsters enjoyed a taste of the Orient at a half-term craft event.

Families dropped in at the Dorman Museum in Middlesbrough to celebrate Chinese New Year,

The children made Chinese artwork – in particular Chinese dragons - to bring good luck for the year ahead.

Zoe Wilson, a worker at the Dorman Museum, said: “It certainly does keep me busy, but it’s nice to see people enjoying themselves.

“The kids are really creative.”

Mum Sally Armstrong comes to the museum every half-term with her daughters Alexandra, eight and Jennifer,11.

She said: “It’s keeping them busy, and it’s free.

“There’s always lots of arts and crafts events here, sometimes pottery classes too.”

The event was one of a number taking place this week. On Friday a Lollystick Butterflies workshop will be held, where children will have the chance to design their own butterfly.

A craft fair will also be taking place the same day – with local crafters showcasing a selection of handmade products.

The workshops are free, although donations to help towards materials are welcome.

They are suitable for children of all age groups, but children must be accompanied by an adult.
