Thornaby office raid: Three men arrested in connection with incident released without charge


Three men arrested in connection with a attempted robbery have been released without charge.


The men, aged 20, 22 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of robbery by detectives investigating the incident at Metcalfe, Kime & Co on Allensway, in Thornaby.


The men were arrested on the same day on the incident, February 27.


But Cleveland Police today said the men are no longer on bail.

“They have been released to face no further action,” a spokeswoman for the force said.


A 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of robbery remains on police bail pending further inquries.


Police and armed officers were called to the insurance services business in Langham House at 4pm.


A motorbike, which was missing a registration plate, was abandoned at the scene and two men made off on foot.


Keith Rigby, 60, was taken to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough with a stab wound to his abdomen which police said was not life-threatening.


His son Chris, a finance clerk at the insurance services firm where his dad is manager, suffered an injury to his face. Both have since been discharged from hospital.
