Curry lovers have spoken - and voted a Guisborough Indian restaurant the best in our area.
Indian Cottage came out top after our readers were asked where they thought the best place was on Teesside to get a curry - be it restaurant or takeaway.
The question was initially posed on our Facebook page and we received hundreds of suggestions.
The recommendations were counted and the six most popular were then listed on our website.
And readers were then asked to vote for their winner.
More than 5,000 votes were cast - with Indian Cottage emerging triumphant by a significant margin.
Gama Singh, the owner of the Guisborough restaurant, says that consistency is the key to his success.
“It’s great that we’ve been voted the best and we’re hoping that more people will come and try our food as a result," he said.
“We do have very regular and loyal customers built up over the 27 years that we’ve been here as well as good staff.
“Customers trust you and if a restaurant keeps changing hands then they don’t.
"We’ve just been here so long and have also kept the menu the same and the ingredients the same and I find that the customers always have the same thing.”
Shalamar in Billingham came in second place, Akbars in Middlesbrough took third, followed by Jamal’s - also in Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough’s Delhi Lounge came in fifth place on the list of winners and Jolsha at Marton Shops, also in Middlesbrough, rounded off the list of Teesside’s favourite curry spots.
Gama, whose original customers now bring along their grandchildren, added: “We are really happy that we’ve won.”
