Teesside tornado Richard Kilty has today been named in the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for next month’s European Athletics Indoor Championships.
The World Indoor champion from Stockton will line up alongside Sainsbury’s Indoor British Champion Chijindu Ujah in the men’s 60m.
He and the British team will jet out to Prague, Czech Republic for the championships held between Thursday, March 5 and Sunday, March 8.
Joining Kilty on the plane will be UK long jump record holder Greg Rutherford, who last competed indoors for Great Britain and Northern Ireland in 2010. #
He set a new indoor personal best of 8.17m at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix on Saturday.
In-form athletes Jenny Meadows and Seren Bundy-Davies, who are both top of the 2015 European rankings, will also feature in the Czech capital.
Eight athletes have received senior selection for the first time including Lucy Hatton, who is part of the British Athletics Futures Programme, and Sean Safo-Antwi.

“There has been some fantastic and promising performances during this indoor season notably at the Sainsbury’s Indoor British Championships and the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix last weekend,” said British Athletics Performance Director Neil Black.
“I’m really encouraged by what I’ve seen so far and we head to the Czech Republic in great shape.
“The team has a good blend of established championship performers such as Greg Rutherford and Jenny Meadows, and in other areas it is very much developmental giving up and coming athletes the opportunity to perform on this stage.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how the team performs as we focus on long term development towards 2016 and 2017 through to 2020.”
Earlier this month Kilty rebounded from his disqualification at the Sainsbury’s Glasgow International Match to finish second behind Kim Collins in the men’s 60 metres at the Copernicus Cup meeting in Torun, Poland.
Kilty clocked 6.64 seconds in the first round before getting down to 6.57 in the final, his fastest season-opening time ever.
