Wearside League: Stockton Town reach Monkwearmouth Cup final but Redcar Athletic crash out

Stockton Town thrashed Richmond Town 5-0 to reach the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup final, where they will play Cleator Moor Celtic following their 2-0 win against Redcar Athletic.

Wearside League-leading Stockton are now into their second final having already made it into the Shipowners Cup showpiece.

They needed only six minutes to take the lead at Richmond as Kallum Hannah turned the ball past home keeper Michael Briggs from close range.

Hannah went close on two more occasions before doubling the Stockton advantage with a curling shot into the roof of the net.

The visitors’ dominance continued after the break and Hannah completed his hat-trick following set-up play from Chris Stockton, with the striker taking his tally to 38 for the season.

Hannah then had an effort cleared off the line before his goalbound shot was given a finishing touch by Chris Stockton as the visitors scored their fourth.

Richmond came close to scoring when Mark Simms had a free-kick tipped onto the post by Michael Arthur.

But the pace-setters scored a fifth as they broke clear from the resulting corner and Chris Stockton smashed in his 25th goal of the season from the edge of the area after racing clear from halfway.

Redcar Athletic were unable to join Stockton Town in the final as two first half goals at Cleator Moor from Adam Meagan ended their involvement in the competition at the last four stage.

Steve Connolly’s side face an away trip in the Wearside League Cup next to face Spennymoor Town Reserves.

Basement side Wolviston came from behind twice to draw 3-3 in their league game at home to Prudhoe.

Villagers keeper Mark Ferguson was beaten by a Connor Powell shot as Prudhoe took the lead.

Wolviston levelled five minutes before the break and went in front through Ian Danby headers. Prudhoe struck twice to regain the lead before Ryan Hebb rescued a point in stoppage time.
