We always knew the Transporter was special.
And now Teesside’s most recognisable structure has been given an official stamp of approval!
But where else in our area do you think could make a nice picture to feature on a stamp?
Royal Mail announced today that the Middlesbrough bridge will feature on a new first class stamp - and post vans working in the town will also carry an image of the stamp.
The Bridges stamp issue celebrates the engineering of 10 structures - also featured are Tarr Steps, Row Bridge, Pulteney Bridge, Craigellachie Bridge, Pont Grog y Borth (Menai Suspension Bridge), High Level Bridge, Royal Border Bridge, Peace Bridge and Humber Bridge.
Andrew Hammond, head of Stamps and Collectibles at Royal Mail, said: “The story of Britain’s engineering genius can be found in its bridges.
“These new stamps celebrate 10 beautiful and ground-breaking landmarks that span centuries of our history.”
Royal Mail has issued a special postmark today to mark the stamp set.
The Tees Transporter Bridge was completed in 1911 and is currently undergoing £2.6m renovations.
We’ve had a think about ten other legendary Teesside images we think could make the Royal Mail grade.
