Proud Boro boy Glen Durrant’s build-up to this week’s BDO World Darts Trophy couldn’t have gone much better.
The World No 3 has just got back from a barnstorming trip to Belfast, where he was named Player of the Tournament after helping England retain the Six Nations Cup.
The 44-year-old from Ormesby won an astonishing 16 of his 19 games over the course of an almost flawless weekend.
England defeated the Republic of Ireland 18-7 in their first group stage game before toppling Wales 14-11, a match which saw Durrant win all five of his games.
Hosts Northern Ireland then crashed out to England in a 13-6 semi-final defeat before the five-man England team pipped the Netherlands 13-12 in the final at the Stormont Hotel.
The England team consisted of Durrant, newly-crowned Lakeside world champion Scott Mitchell, Yorkshireman Martin Atkins, Coventry’s Mark McGeeney and Basingstoke-based Paul Hogan.
Lakeside semi-finalist Durrant’s Six Nations success followed his stellar displays from the previous weekend at the Scottish Open.
The housing services manager won the triples and doubles in Renfrew and was only denied the singles title by a deciding leg defeat to Dennis Harbour in the final.
The World Darts Trophy runs from Thursday to Sunday at EventCity in Manchester this week, with Durrant seeded third behind Mitchell and three-time BDO world champion Martin Adams.
Durrant kicks off his title bid against Karel Sedlacek of the Czech Republic on Friday and is joint second favourite for the title behind Lakeside foe Adams.
All four days of the tournament will be broadcast live and exclusive on Eurosport.
