A communications specialist has won a Best New Business gong for his community work.

Dave Allen set up his PR company, Dave Allen Communications, after he was made redundant from a 17-year run as Middlesbrough Football Club’s press officer.

He still has strong links with the club, but it was his work with charities and the business community that earned him the Best New Business Tees Valley award, which he collected at his “old stomping ground” - the Riverside Stadium.

Dave said: “I knew I’d been shortlisted, but I didn’t expect to win as my business isn’t community-based. I’m absolutely delighted.”

Dave also does work for the Teesside Philanthropic Foundation and the Finley Cooper Fund, which both have their roots on Teesside.
