Jack Howell is the hero as Guisborough turn back clock

The clocks may have moved forward on Saturday night, but Guisborough DMC turned the clock back for a good old fashioned non-stop trial the following day

The clocks may have moved forward on Saturday night, but Guisborough DMC turned the clock back for a good old fashioned non-stop trial the following day.

And Jack Howell from Port Mulgrave proved in superb form to take the Premier award by six marks from Yarm’s MRS Sherco rider Tom Affleck.

The four-lap, 10-section course was run over the spectacular valley side of Westerdale, the vast moorside and huge monolith rocks creating tough, natural sections.

Howell’s marks were lost on sections four, seven and eight and Affleck matched him all the way until failing the jump onto the last massive rock step of Harold Wilson’s to collect five marks on his score.

Castleton’s Mark Raw came out of retirement to win the intermediate class from Gary Collinson and Mark Harrison, who campaigned a beautifully prepped Yamaha into a fine third place.

Yarm’s Richard Simpson hit true form on the tougher sections to win Clubman A from Middlesbrough’s Barry Chapman, but ride of the day came from Lealholm’s Alistair Jackson.

Out on a Honda TLR, he also turned the clock back to remember the practice days of his youth there more than 20 years ago.

He nicked the Clubman B win by two marks from the modern machinery of Pickering’s Martin Peirson, with Andrew Dale, John Stones, Chris Banks and a real blast from the past, Paul Nelson, taking fifth place.
