Police have launched a murder inquiry after the body of a woman was found in a hostel on Parliament Road in Middlesbrough

Murder detectives were last night quizzing a teenager after a woman was found dead a North hostel.

The 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder after the body was discovered at a property on Parliament Road in Middlesbrough during the early hours of yesterday.

Officers were called to what they are describing as a “multi-occupancy house” at around 3.35am by a member of the public.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

She has not yet been formally identified but police said she was believed to be foreign.

Yesterday, a large area of the road was cordoned off with police tape as forensics officers worked inside the property.

And officers from Cleveland Police were asking for anyone with information about the death to get in touch.

A spokeswoman said: “Police continue to investigate the death. Officers are carrying out house-to-house enquiries and collecting

CCTV footage in a bid to gather information. Extra officers are patrolling the area and anyone with any concerns or who has information is encouraged to speak to them.”

A post-mortem examination on the woman’s body was due to be carried out last night. Meanwhile the teen suspect remained in police custody.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101.
