Some 2,591 Syrians died in August, most of them killed by regime forces, figures published by the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) showed.

SNHR said that the Syrian regime killed 2,123 people, including 1,728 civilians, including 251 children, 157 women and 243 people who were tortured to death. The armed opposition killed 395 others.

The Islamic State (IS) killed 362 people, including 123 civilians and 239 from the Syrian armed opposition members, which killed 106, including 103 civilians and three from other opposition groups.

The network said that it documented deaths among civilians and combatant, but it did not document the deaths among the regime and IS forces because both of them ban the network from working in the areas under their control.

Meanwhile, the organisation documented the death of 75 people but was unable to identify which party killed them; however it holds information of their full names, time of death and place.

It noted that it was unable to document many cases as they could not reach places of crimes because of massacres, sieges or due to communications channels being cut.
