Severe weather warning: Forecasters issue alert over incoming dense fog on Teesside

Teesside has been given a severe weather warning for fog.

Dense fog is predicted for today and tomorrow - and the public should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel.

A chief forecaster for the Met Office said: “Visibilities below 100 metres are likely in the denser areas of fog.

“The limited insolation (sunlight reaching the earth's surface) available at this time of year, along with light winds, means that the fog will be rather reluctant to clear on Saturday morning.

"But current expectations are that most of the fog will have cleared by the end of the morning - although mist and low cloud is likely to plague some locations into the afternoon.”

The Met Office issues warnings for rain, snow, wind, fog and ice.

Warnings are given a colour depending on a combination of both the likelihood of the event happening and the impact the conditions may have.

This is a yellow warning - meaning ‘be aware’.

Teesside has seen rain today - and it’s predicted for the rest of today along with a maximum temperature of 12C and possible low of 6C.

Tomorrow is predicted to be overcast, with forecasters saying there will be a maximum temperature of 8C and minimum of 7C.

Sunday is expected to be cloudy.

Temperatures for Sunday are expected to be between 8C and 11C.
