Motorists are currently facing major delays on the A174 Parkway.
Due to the temporary traffic lights on the roundabout at the A19 being out of sync and only allowing a few cars through at a time, heavy traffic is building on the road.
As a result, some people are choosing to reverse up sliproads to avoid the problem - prompting Cleveland Police to issue a warning.
“Driving in the wrong direction on slip roads is highly dangerous, can cause serious collisions and is problematic for officers on scene,” said a spokeswoman for the force.
“Please be patient in queues of traffic and check travel news before setting off on your journey. This could prevent you being stuck in a queue of traffic.”
