Aldi recruiting apprentices on Teesside: Here's how you can apply for the jobs

Supermarket giant Aldi has announced plans to recruit apprentices who could eventually earn up to £24,500 as part of its rapid expansion on Teesside.

The budget retailer has said it will recruit around 10 store apprentices for its two stores in Middlesbrough, as well as its stores in Guisborough, Redcar and Yarm.

Applications for the scheme are now open to coincide with the start of National Apprenticeship Week.

The store apprentices are trained in all aspects of retail management during the three year course.

The scheme offers store assistant training in year one and store management training in years two and three with a salary of £5.30 per hour rising to £7.63 per hour.

Successful apprentices will be offered a deputy manager position upon completion of the course, and can progress onto assistant store manager.

Aldi store apprentices will also achieve a Retail Apprenticeship Level 3 qualification.

The firm said that by the end of the scheme, the most successful store apprentices will have the opportunity to progress to the position of Assistant Store Manager with a starting salary of £24,500.

And by joining the scheme, young people could ultimately be fast tracked to a store manager.

In addition, Aldi is working closely with key contractors to ensure construction apprentices are hired as part of major developments such as Aldi’s new regional distribution centres.

Aldi has agreed that a management trainee, electrician, plumber, plasterer and carpenter will all be hired as apprentices for the construction of Aldi’s new distribution centre in Bolton, which is due to open next year.

The scheme comes amid a rapid expansion by Aldi on Teesside. The firm has recently opened an outlet in Guisborough and is also opening stores in Billingham, Coulby Newham and Skelton.

Ruth Doyle, Aldi regional managing director at Aldi said: “The Aldi Apprentice Scheme will deliver opportunities for committed and resourceful young people nationwide. Successful candidates will be joining one of the most dynamic and fast-growing retailers in the UK, with a proven track record in developing its staff.

“Aldi’s apprentices are given real responsibility from day one, with the opportunity to learn about the business from a grassroots level, and we expect our recruits to progress to a managerial level.”

Applications for the scheme should be submitted via Aldi’s recruitment website http://bit.ly/1GEqnSW and successful candidates will be asked to attend a group interview followed by an ‘Aldi experience’ at a local store.

Applications close on Friday, September 11.
