Trials: Guy Kendrew and rival can't be split at top of the standings

Guy Kendrew from Faceby and Yorkshireman James Carr could not be split in Guisborough DMC’s trial at Slapewath.

After four laps of 10 sections, the pair remained clean to finish joint winners.

“I enjoyed it,” said Kendrew, who is starting 2015 in the same eye-catching way as he ended 2014.

“It was a little bit easier than expected, but it does help to up your level of concentration, so it was good practice for the season ahead.”

Former speedway rider Kendrew will defend his British Expert Trials Championship crown this year.

Starting with the Cleveland in March, he’ll also head to the Scottish and Scott Trials plus all the British Championship Expert rounds the length and breadth of the country, so he is in for a hectic season.

Simon Winfield, who spent many hours around the Slapewath course when he was a lad and living in Guisborough, sneaked in to win the intermediate class honours.

Now based in Hartlepool, he took the honours on the most cleans rule from Shane Monkman with Mark Taylor third.

Winfield shook off the effects of a bad crash on the rock step of seven and nailed it on the last lap with a superb clean.

Phil Manton (Middlesbrough), John Bullen (Yarm) and Mark Jewell (Guisborough) shared the top award in Clubman B, all of them remaining unpenalised.
