'Bullied' woman who smuggled drugs into prison for partner's brother avoids jail

A woman who smuggled drugs into prison for her partner’s brother has avoided being sent to jail herself.

Lisa Marie Elsworth pleaded guilty to taking 240mg of Subutex tablets, worth between £40 and £60, into prison on a visit on August 14, 2013.

She was spotted on CCTV concealing a package which then fell to the floor when she was approached.

Teesside Crown Court heard she was “bullied” into carrying the class C drugs, which are used by opiate dependents.

The 35-year-old, of Kilton Close, Stockton, had beaten a drug addiction but became dependent on alcohol, the court heard.

The Judge, Recorder Andrew Dallas gave her an eight-month jail sentence suspended for 12 months with supervision and alcohol treatment requirements.
