18-year-old male dies after overnight single-car collision on A66 at Long Newton


A teenager has died in a crash overnight.


The 18-year-old male was driving westbound on the A66 when the single-car collision happened at Long Newton in the early hours of today.


Police say his silver Hyundai Getz had left the carriageway and collided with the barrier.


A member of the public had reported the incident at 12.15am.


Fire crews from County Durham Fire and Rescue also attended the incident and cut the teenager, who is from the Darlington area, from the car.


He was then taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough where he later died from his injuries.


Any witnesses are being urged to call Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on 101 quoting reference CVP15062038.
