Aitor Karanka hails Adam Forshaw as a 'good addition' after the midfielder signs for Boro

Adam Forshaw says he didn't need any convincing to join Boro once he realised the club was interested in signing him.

The 23-year-old has been impressed with Aitor Karanka's promotion chasing side this year and was "up for the challenge" of joining Boro.

Karanka says the midfielder fits the bill of what he was looking for in the January transfer window as the boss looked to bolster Boro's engine room.

As expected, Forshaw completed his move to Boro earlier today, signing a three-and-a-half year deal.

The fee is undisclosed but the Gazette understands it's in the region of £2.5m.

The new arrival is available to go straight into Boro's squad for the clash against his former club Brentford this weekend.

"He's just the type of player I want here," Karanka told the club's website.

"He fits the profile of the players we want at the club.

"He's a good lad and he's a good player.

"It's important to bring in players who know the league and Adam fits that.

"He's a good addition to what we have here."

Forshaw was named League One's Player of the Year last season before agreeing a summer move to Wigan Athletic to join up with Uwe Rosler again.

The move hasn't worked out for Forshaw with Wigan, who were expected to challenge for promotion, struggling at the other end of the table.

The former Everton trainee was delighted to agree the move to Boro.

"I was up the challenge of coming to Middlesbrough," he said.

"I know how big the club is. There's a good manager and a good set of players.

"Watching them for afar their style of play is good, it's something I wanted to be a part of, and I didn't need convincing."
