Guisborough boss hails his high-flying side as they remain on course for the treble

Guisborough boss Chris Hardy says his treble-chasing side are playing some of the best football he has presided over during his eight years at the club.

The Priorymen beat York City 2-1 on Tuesday night to reach a second successive North Riding Senior Cup final, and will play either Middlesbrough Under 21s or Scarborough Athletic in the competition decider.

Guisborough are also very much in the Northern League title hunt, and are marching on in the League Cup as they thrive on three fronts.

The second-placed Priorymen are at Bishop Auckland tomorrow, and Hardy said: “Some of our attacking play has been top drawer.

“Our formula is young players with pace and good technical ability, and it’s working for us.”

First-choice keeper Nick Liversedge may be back and top scorer Danny Earl returns to the squad after injury, but left-back Danny McWilliams starts a three-match ban.

Guisborough have more suspensions and absences coming up, so have signed Stuart Bath from Billingham Synthonia.

Marske have been replaced in third by North Shields following their 5-1 midweek win over Jarrow Roofing, who the Seasiders visit tomorrow.

Carl Jarrett’s side have games in hand on all of the top three and need to make them count, but will be without top scorer Jamie Owens.

Veteran targetman Danny Brunskill will start in his place.

Billingham Synthonia boss Conrad Hillerby says his side are in safe hands with goalkeeper Peter Burke as they target the 45 points he believes they need to stay up.

Synners lost 2-0 in the League Cup at Shildon on Wednesday with Burke in goal, but the on-loan Sunderland Academy shot-stopper kept clean sheets in his first two league appearances.

Burke will remain in goal as Synners host Bedlington tomorrow, and former Hartlepool United midfielder Josh Rowbotham could return from a knock.

Hillerby said: “Peter has been excellent. His kicking is solid, his handling is good and you can tell he’s had daily coaching.”

Second division Thornaby will try and rinse away the bad taste of their 11-1 North Riding Cup defeat by Evo-Stik North Scarborough Athletic when they visit Brandon.

Matty Crossen, Joe Melvin and Jason Honeyman come back in, but top scorer Jamie Clarke is still out.

Norton boss Andy Campbell wants a reaction from his side at home to Whickham following last week’s shock 4-3 defeat at Alnwick, and could have Karl Charlton back from a knee injury.

Stokesley warmed up for their home game against Heaton Stannington with a 2-1 friendly win over Wolviston.

Wilf Dinsdale and Ste Roberts return but striker Greg Peel has moved to Ireland. Peel scored eight times in 18 Stokesley appearances.

Daniel Ballantyne and Harry Taylor are suspension-free for Billingham Town at Ryton, and Louis Whensley has rejoined from Crook.
