Landlord escapes through back door after fire at Stockton bookmakers spreads to social club

An investigation has been launched following a blaze at a betting shop.

Fire crews spent more than an hour tackling the fire at Ladbrokes bookmaker on Harrowgate Lane, in Stockton, in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters were called to the scene at about 1am today.

Three appliances attended the incident including two from Stockton and one from Middlesbrough.

It is believed the fire initially started in the doorway of the shop before spreading to the Hardwick Social club which is attached to the property.

The landlord of the club had escaped from the back door of the social club and was described as being “unharmed.”
