North East Exporters' Awards to have new category for 2015

The North East Exporters’ Awards has a new category for 2015 - the Special Recognition Award.

For the first time, judges will select the company they feel deserves a special mention for its outstanding contribution to North-east export success.

The search is on for the first worthy winner; but the category is not open for entries. The award could be presented as an additional award to a winner of one of the other categories, or to another organisation that the judges would like to commend for their commitment to export excellence.

Judges will be looking at factors from the product range being exported to company team, performance and staff development measures undertaken.

Obstacles and barriers to success will be taken into account, as will percentage of growth in export sales - and performance against other exporting organisations of a similar size and sector.

The complexity and number of markets served by the company, particularly in lucrative high growth markets, will also be a key factor.

These markets include Brazil, China, Columbia, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UAE and Vietnam.

If companies tick all those boxes, they could be in with a chance of receiving the coveted accolade.

The Special Recognition Award is in conjunction with Teesport owner PD Ports and marks the first time the company has been involved as an associate sponsor.

David Robinson, Chief Executive Officer, PD Ports said: “PD Ports owns and operates Teesport, one of the top 3 UK ports handling over 40 million tonnes of cargo a year and a major export hub.

“We are keen to further demonstrate our commitment to supporting our region’s exporters through sponsoring these highly regarded awards.

“We are particularly excited to be sponsoring the Special Recognition Award.”

The Special Recognition Award provides an opportunity for PD Ports, alongside the other Associate Sponsors; NECC, UKTI and HSBC to formally recognise the achievements of one of the region’s exceptional export successes.

The recipient of the award will be selected by the judges and will not necessarily be limited to those that apply for the other award categories.

Mr Robinson added: “Historically, this category has not been awarded every year, and instead has been reserved for special commendations, so it is really exciting to know that we will be recognising an organisation through this award this year and a real privilege for PD Ports to be taking a key role in the selection process.

“We look forward to joining our many existing customers and other exporting organisations on the night of the awards to hear of your export successes and to celebrate the strength and diversity of North-east exporting. In the meantime, we encourage all of our region’s exporters to get involved with this fantastic event and wish everyone the best of luck with your entries.”

The awards, a partnership between The Gazette and its sister paper The Journal on Tyneside, the NECC, UKTI HSBC and PD Ports, shine a spotlight on the companies doing the most to boost the region’s export figures.

Winners will be announced at the North East Exporters’ dinner on June 25 at Ramside Hall Hotel, County Durham.
