Stockton actress follows in footsteps of Hollywood legends after winning place at Theatre of Arts in Los Angeles

A young actress from Stockton is following in the footsteps of Hollywood legends after winning a place at a leading drama school.

Olivia-Jane Pearson will soon be jetting off to California to take her place at the prestigious Theatre of Arts in Los Angeles.

Founded in 1927 by silent film and vaudeville actor Ben Bard, the school boasts Silver Screen stars Olivia de Havilland and Mickey Rooney among its famous alumni.

Only 20 people a year are chosen for the one-year TV, Film and Acting Diploma, such is the competition to get in.

Olivia, an 18-year-old actress and model, auditioned for a place in London after the course was recommended by her drama teacher from Stagecoach Theatre Arts in Yarm.

And she had just half an hour to impress the teachers with her two monologues, including one from Shakespeare’s Alls Well that Ends Well.

“I found out that I’d got a place on the course in the middle of the night,” she said.

“I was checking my emails at 4am when I received their email saying I was in,” she said. “I was awake the rest of the night - I just can’t believe it!”

But the former Egglescliffe School pupil, from Carlton, is no stranger to being in the spotlight.

Last summer the teenager was chosen to be the face of the Splash attraction at Northumberland’s Alnwick Gardens for a TV advert.

She also strutted her stuff on the catwalk as a finalist in Miss Durham 2014 as well as landing various modelling and stage work.

But despite never having been to America before Olivia will not be fazed when she heads to the bright lights and big city of LA in September.

“I’d love to live and work in London or LA”, she said.

Olivia’s mum Jane and brother Warren, 23, “are all over the moon”, at her blossoming acting career.

The teenager is now seeking sponsors to help to make her LA dream come true. Anyone who can help can email her at oliviajp@outlook.com.
