Police are currently evacuating firms from Durham Lane Industrial Estate, and have closed Durham Lane from the A66 and from Allens West.
Worried residents have spoken of seeing smoke clouds rising more than 100ft into the air from the fire.
Sandy White, who lives on Black Diamond Way, said: “I can still see the flames through the bushes in my garden, but its the black, black cloud in the sky that is horrendous.”
