The Border Guards along Al-Khadra border point in the southern Najran region have intensified their operations with utmost vigilance in order to prevent Houthi militias from entering the Kingdom.

A Saudi Press Agency reporter said he had seen a large number of Yemenis taking refuge in the Kingdom after the Saudi-led coalition stepped up its campaigns on Houthi positions in Yemen.

“The Houthi militias have driven us from our home in Bart Al-Anan village by force,” said Nasser bin Mohammed Hassan, a Yemeni, who was carrying his children. “They have killed many people and some of us were able to run away.”

Hassan said the Houthis have been oppressing people in his village. “While reaching the Yemeni border we have noticed that the Houthis had closed the Passport Department to prevent Yemenis from running away.”

Capt. Ali bin Yahya Al-Maadi, a border guard officer in Qarn Khabash, said the border guards in the region are well-prepared to face any eventualy. “We are well-trained to confront any attack,” Al-Maadi told SPA. He said the Yemeni refugees are allowed to enter the Kingdom after undergoing thorough inspections.

Col. Awad bin Yahya Al-Qahtani, commander of the Khabash sector, briefed the SPA team on his department’s preparations. “Our forces comb the border areas day and night to track down attackers and intruders.”

Border patrols have arrested 10 intruders — a Yemeni and nine Somalis — recently and questioned them to know their motives. “Our forces monitor enemy movements along the border using advanced thermal cameras.”

Meanwhile, the Education Department in Najran has approved the mechanism to close in schools in border areas early because of the present situation and save the lives of children from possible attacks.

As per the new plan, primary schools in the region would be closed after two weeks while secondary schools will be closed after three weeks
