Time for action as Whitby and District MC hope to attract bumper turnout for event

East Cleveland-based club hope to attract more than 20 club drivers from all over the North to their popular annual Rally Time Trial

East Cleveland-based Whitby and District MC hope to attract more than 20 club drivers from all over the North to their popular annual Rally Time Trial.

The event takes place at the Chris Birkbeck Rallyschool in Brotton on Sunday, March 30.

The stage consists of a 2.5 mile gravel and tarmac surface.

It has fast tarmac straights, fast gravel bends and an open chicane.

The stage, which consists of three laps, flows very well.

The event consists of a ‘sighting’ lap, two practice runs at speed and at least four competitive runs, with each driver’s three best times counting.

Added pressure is on the drivers to remember not only the stage but how many laps they have completed.

The event is open to all classes including fourwheel drive - although whether or not that is an advantage is open for debate as Matt Smith has won the event for the last two years in a 1400 Ford Ka.

Due to space constraints the event is strictly non-spectator but the club is looking for marshls on the day - visit www.whitbydmc.co.uk for contract details.

Meanwhile club chairman Dave Scrimgour takes part in the SMC Stages Rally at Weeton Camp on Sunday when he will be co-driving for Marton’s Neil Marshall in a Peugeot 205.

“The car and driver are well suited for the Weeton Stages and we’re hoping to lay the ghost of last year when we were second in class and a top 10 position was on the cards when the car snapped a driveshaft,” said Scrimgour.
