Iranian security services close Khomeni website

Iranian security services close Khomeni website

President Mohamed Khatemi

The Iranian security services have closed a news website operated by the family of the founder of the Islamic Republic, the late Aytollah Khomeni, Anadolu has reported.

According to the news agency, the reason for the closure was that it published a news piece about former President Mohamed Khatemi. Baharnews.ir, whose editor in chief is Mohamed Rida, one of the reformist leaders in Iran, was shut down completely because of the material published for “the conspiracy leader” Khatemi. Jamaran.ir, owned by Hojatul-Islam Sayyid Hassan Khamenei, was also shut down, but was later reopened.

Last week, Iran’s judiciary announced a ban on the publication of any news, pictures or videos about or for Khatemi, calling him one of the “leaders of conspiracy” in the country. The judiciary spokesman said that any mass media that does not adhere to the decision would be punished.
