Tony Mowbray on the verge of being appointed as new Coventry City boss

Former Boro boss Tony Mowbray is on the verge of becoming the new manager of Coventry City, according to reports.

Mogga is now as short as 1/10 with the bookies to take charge of the Sky Blues, who put in an impressive display to beat promotion candidates MK Dons on Saturday.

The League One club are close to appointing a new boss following the sacking of Steven Pressley, according to the Coventry Telegraph, and believe Mowbray is the man likely to take the reigns.

The club's fans expressed their delight at the prospect of Mogga taking over with 80% backing the decision to appoint the former Boro boss in a poll carried out by the local paper.

Reports suggest Mowbray's appointment could be announced as early as this afternoon ahead of Coventry's visit to Barnsley tomorrow night.

If, as expected, Mogga does get the job, the 51-year-old will take charge of a side sitting just point above the relegation zone with 14 games still to play.

The Boro legend is believed to have expressed his interest in the Coventry job as soon as it became available.

Sources close to the ex-Hibs, Celtic and West Brom boss told the Coventry Telegraph he would consider the role because of the history and stature of the club.

Mowbray has been out of work since leaving Boro in October, 2013, but revealed his desire to return to the hotseat a year after his departure from his hometown club.

Mark Proctor, who worked alongside Mogga at Boro, said he believes Coventry would be the perfect fit for his former teammate.

"Coventry is a massive club in League One and has a good fan base. It’s had plenty of issues in the last few years moving out of the stadium and then back in, and I’m not sure what the politics are behind the scenes," said Proctor in his Gazette column over the weekend.

"But if they are all sorted out then it’s a really good job for anyone, and I can understand why Tony is being linked to it."
