Muzzy Carayol 'will be a fans' favourite' at Brighton, says Seagulls skipper

Playing for Boro has improved Mustapha Carayol’s all-round game, according to a Brighton team-mate who knows him better than most.

The tricky winger, who joined Albion on loan last week, has been reunited with Seagulls skipper Adam Virgo, with whom he shared a dressing room at Bristol Rovers.

“He will add something a bit different,” said Virgo. “He will become a fans’ favourite very quickly because he does something with the ball.

“He has got two good feet, he’s quick, he can cut inside and shoot or go down the outside. Sometimes he could frustrate managers but he fully deserved his move to Middlesbrough and his work-rate his improved there.

“I think he has brought that defensive aspect more into his game.”

Carayol is set to make his Brighton debut at the Amex Stadium on Friday and he could do his parent club a huge favour by helping struggling Albion beat promotion hopefuls Norwich.

Albion manager Chris Hughton isn’t expecting miracles from the 26-year-old, who hasn’t played first team football since March 2014.

He said: “While he has played for Boro’s Under-21s, and has recovered from the injury, he is yet to feature in the Championship, so it will be a case of reintroducing him to the rigours of first team football.”
