Picture gallery: Fans at the Riverside for the Under-21 friendly between England and Germany

It wasn't quite a record crowd but it was still a superb showing from Boro fans.

And the 30,178 who turned out were treated to an entertaining clash as Gareth Southgate's England Under-21s twice came from behind to record an impressive victory over a talented Germany side.

The local interest no doubt assisted the attendance with Ben Gibson lining up in England's defence.

And there could have been even more Boro involvement had Patrick Bamford not been forced to pull out of the squad through injury.

Gareth Southgate praised the Teesside fans after the game, saying: "It's been brilliant, the club have really promoted the game well.

"The ticket pricing has been sensible and it's been great to see so many young kids in the stadium.

"Also, I think they appreciated the way we've played and the manner we've gone about our business."
