Syrian regime forces attack hospital in Idlib

Aftermath of the attack on the hospital in Syria

Five Syrians were wounded on Sunday when the Syrian regime forces targeted Al-Hilal hospital which is run by the Syrian Red Crescent in the city of Idlib, Anadolu Agency reported.

Marwan abu-Hilal, a paramedic in the Orient Hospital in Idlib, told Anadolu that Assad’s forces stationed in the city of Jericho had targeted Idlib city centre with mortars, noting that one of the mortar shells directly hit Al-Hilal Hospital.

The paramedic added: “We came here [in Orient Hospital] to save the wounded as a number of citizens were wounded in the attack on the hospital. A large part of the hospital was damaged as it had caught fire. A number of ambulances also caught fire and were damaged.”

After five days of fierce battles, Syrian opposition factions announced complete control of the city which is the second provincial city to fall entirely out of control of the government.

In March 2011, pro-democracy protests broke out in Syria demanding President Assad’s resignation. The situation spiralled out of control and around 220,000 people have been killed in the violence and an estimated 10 million have been displaced
